The Courage to Seek Justice - International Women of Courage 2024 (part 2)



Myintzu Win, a criminal defense lawyer from Burma, tirelessly works to champion the rights of marginalized communities, including persons with disabilities, women, children, and the LGBTQI+ community. To date, Win has defended – often pro bono – over 500 clients.

Bangladeshi Supreme Court advocate, Fawzia Karim Firoze, has fought for the rights of marginalized groups for more than three decades. She is currently the head of her own law chamber and serves as the Chairperson for the Foundation for Law and Development.

Volha Harbunova is a human rights defender in Belarus and has been imprisoned, tortured, and received death threats for helping abused women. She has supported victims of domestic violence for 20 years & operated one of the only shelters for children & women in Belarus.

Agather Atuhaire is a renowned journalist, lawyer, and social justice activist in Uganda. She is being honored as an #IWOC for bravely reporting on sexual harassment in the NGO sector, threats to democracy and governance, and abuse of process and excess.
