KGW: One thousand new citizens take the oath in a single day in Portland
At the Portland Convention Center, 1000 people took the oath to become U.S. Citizens. At the ceremony, Quin Andress with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced all 91 countries the applicants represented.
"France. Germany. India. Jordan. Poland. Ukraine."
It’s a record number for the Portland area. "It demonstrates that they are United States citizens going forward with the same responsibilities, and rights and privileges as every American citizen."
From war torn Ukranian, immigrant Nagaliia values her new citizenship. "I think if I would have got my citizenship one year ago, maybe I wouldn't really understand the deep meaning of what freedom is."
The USCIS encouraged the new citizens to post their experience on social media. #NewUSCitizen
