Richard Nixon served in the US Navy (1942-1946), as US Representative (1947-1950), Senate (1950-1953), Vice President (1953-1961), and the 37th US President (1969-1974).  Although he was very anti-communist, he visited and opened up diplomatic relations with China (1972) and the Soviet Union (1973).  After many years of fighting, he withdrew American troops from Vietnam.  He was forced to resign during (1974) when it was revealed that he tried to get information illegally from the opposing party during the 1972 election.
