VOANews: When Immigration Comes Knocking, Looking for Illegal Immigrants
The Obama administration recently began a surge of raids to deport illegal immigrants. The surge was focused on Central American migrants who had stayed beyond their deportation orders. The enforcement actions left many undocumented people fearful of leaving their homes. VOA’s Carolyn Presutti got exclusive access to six undocumented adults just hours after their home was raided. CLINIC: Know your rights:
- Do not open the door to immigration agents or police unless they have a legal document with your name on it.
- Ask them to slip it under the door before you admit them.
- Tell your children not to open the door.
- Remain silent. You do not have to answer their questions.
- Do not sign anything and ask to speak with an attorney or legal representative.
