Thousands of African Americans are in (the midwestern US city of) Kansas City, Missouri this week (July 10-15) as the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization holds its annual convention. The organization known as the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) is beginning the first year in its second century of being a leading voice for African Americans. Today, the group is trying to attract young people while pushing for better paying jobs and educational opportunities for minorities. VOA's Chris Simkins with more on the history of the organization and its young leaders.
