The Continental Flag of June 17, 1775

The Continental Flag of June 17, 1775 flying over UN Plaza, San Francisco

Flying from the top of Bunker Hill, it became the symbol of a United States determined to establish a new concept of government. Sympathy for this cause would foreshadow a magnificent alliance between france and the United States. At sea it would be a d'Estaing of the French Navy and John Paul Jones of the Ranger; on land, Lafayette and Washington. Years later in World War I France would resound with American soldiers shouting, "Lafayette, we are here!"
